A Carnival Review
Oh what a Carnival! Oh what a week!
Now its all over, I can hardly speak
Of the fun, the games and the events: the parade
Wasn’t it super,... what a spectacle it made.
First off were the Dartbeats outside the V&A,
then ‘Fun on the Millpond’ on the sunny Sunday.
On Monday there was Whist in the old Village Hall
And the End of the Pier show at the Castle was such a ball.
Come Tuesday , an afternoon for children to impress
With not only their Pets, but also amazing Fancy Dress.
Neil Vaughan’s ‘Really Wild Show’ was not to be missed
And in the evening Roz exercised our minds with her quiz.
The Mini Market and Bingo were both well supported
So was the Teddy Bears’ picnic in the Orchard.
With Golf, Cricket and Euchre there was something for all
But best of all was ‘Village Variety’ in the packed hall.
Come Friday, the traditional crab catching on the quay
Was very well supported, in fact, quite a meleé
The afternoon saw a cookery demonstration and Church Tour
Then Morris dancing and Karaoke, who could ask for more?
Well more there was! Saturday morning the village was busy,
Making floats and costumes every one was in a tizzy.
From Rydon Acres the Parade set off, with not one but two Bands!
-the roads were filled with walkers, floats, tractors and vans!
To the ‘Fun of the fair’ in the School field people went
To the games, the Sumo Wrestlers; not to forget the Beer tent!
Live music from ‘Something Else’ rounded off the day,
Yet a River Treasure Hunt and Mini Soccer was held on Sunday.
The Quayside service was held in the church – due to the weather,
But despite that, all the week could not have been better.
Many thanks to the Organisers and helpers of all the events
Too numerous to mention, but my gratitude is well meant.
And finally before my copybook I do blot
My grateful thanks to Dianne Massie and Lynne Turcotte
Without whose help the Carnival would not have come alive!
Oh what a Carnival!... Roll on two thousand and five!!!
